The Flight of the Dragonfly in Front of the Sun
Joan Miró, 1968

I love Joan Miró for his simple, colorful, youthful and yet meaningful paintings.
It is known that in the mid-sixties, Miró created a series of paintings in which he reduced his stock of expressive means to a minimum.

"The Flight of the Dragonfly in Front of the Sun" is a great example of this period of his life. The artist immersed himself in the depths of his own consciousness. In his words,

I fled to the absolute... I wanted my spots of paint to be open to the magnetic beckoning of the void... I was interested in the void, in perfect emptiness.”
~ Joan Miró

Due to its simplicity and cheerfulness, Miró's paintings can be understood and loved by children (like my 5 years old daughter), as well as open minded adults... for its minimalism!
